Chicken Coop Assembly Instructions

Assembling a Somerzby chicken coop may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Many people are curious about the process and have questions about what is involved.

Common questions regarding Somerzby chicken coop assembly include:

Do Your Chicken Coops Come Assembled?

No, Somerzby chicken coops come as flat packs and require assembly.

Are Your Chicken Coops Hard to Assemble?

Assembling our coops is easy! Large panels are pre-assembled so there is no complicated woodwork. The wire mesh is already attached onto the frames. You simply need to line the panels up and screw them together.

What Tools Will I Need?

  • Screws and assembly instructions are provided.
  • You will need a drill or battery powered screwdriver with a Phillips head bit.
  • Taller coops may also require a step ladder to reach the roof.
  • Some coops contain a nylon nut on the long silver handle. If this is the case, you will need a wrench. Use the wrench to hold the nylon nut in place and screw it closed using a battery powered screwdriver. This will lock it tight and stop it coming undone over time.

Are the Holes Pre-Drilled?

You do NOT need to drill any holes into the wood. When screwing two panels together, the first panel has a guide hole. This is to show you where the screw goes.

The second panel does NOT have a pre-drilled hole so the screw will break directly into the wood. This forms a stronger join.

Do I Need to Paint My Chicken Coop?

Our coops come already coated in non-toxic, water-based stain. We recommend re-staining them every year or so. You do not need to paint your coop. If you choose to, you can paint straight over the timber without needing to sand it back.

You could use any exterior paint but ensure it is waterproof and non-toxic for your pets. We do not recommend painting the asphalt roof.

How Much Time Will it Take to Assemble?

It depends on the coop size, your skill level, and if you have someone to assist you. Most small and medium sized coops will take one hour to assemble. The larger walk-in coops may take up to three hours to assemble.

Are There Any Tips or Tricks That Can Make Assembly Easier?

Our chicken coops can be assembled with one person. However, it is much easier with two people. Have one person hold the larger panels in place while the second person screws them together.

When you first begin assembly, take everything out of all the cartons first. Identify each panel on the instruction sheet. Make sure nothing is missing and no panels have been damaged in transit. You can then begin putting your order together.

Always assemble your product on a flat surface. Uneven ground can cause the panels to line up incorrectly. This may result in doors getting stuck or latches not lining up. When assembling wire mesh panels, the staples go on the inside.

Are There Any Safety Considerations When Assembling a Chicken Coop?

Be cautious when using your drill or battery powered screwdriver. Ensure your drill bit is fitted correctly. Keep your fingers, hair and clothing away from the rotating drill bit. Do not use excessive force.

If you are using a step ladder, make sure it is placed on even ground and is stable.

Do You Offer Chicken Coop Assembly Services?

Sorry no, we don’t offer assembly services. Assembly is easy so most customers assemble the chicken coops themselves.

If you don’t feel confident doing it yourself, we would recommend hiring a local handyman to assist.
