Discover Somerzby’s Range of Outdoor Cat Tunnels

Cat tunnels give your furry friend the freedom to go between your house and their outdoor catio whenever they choose. Instead of being stuck inside waiting for you to carry them out, your cat has free access. This encourages them to go outside more often, increasing natural behaviours like climbing, bird watching and exploring. These enrichment activities provide both mental and physical stimulation.

Tunnel Runways

Somerzby Tunnel Runways are the main component of our Cat Tunnel Kit. They are a rectangular, covered tunnel that your cat can walk through safely, helping to join your house and their outdoor catio. Our model is suitable for kittens and adult cats of all breeds and sizes.

Each Runway is 1 metre long. They have a solid timber ground for your cat to walk on comfortably, and wire mesh on the sides and top to keep them contained. You can join multiple Runways together to create a long catwalk..

Tunnel Colours

Our cat tunnels come in two colour options: Bella and Luna. Bella features brown timber with silver wire mesh, while Luna has a white timber finish with black wire mesh.

Both tunnels are identical in size, structure and function; the different names simply reflect the colour options, allowing you to choose the style that best complements your yard or existing cat run.

Tunnel Corners

Somerzby Tunnel Corners are a small square section. They are designed to join 2 Runway sections around a bend. This helps your tunnel fit into your unique backyard configuration.

Our Corner pieces also have a solid floor and wire mesh on the top and 2 sides. It has 2 sides open, allowing you to join on your 2 Runways at a right angle.

Why Choose Somerzby’s Outdoor Cat Tunnel Enclosures?

Durable Materials for Peace of Mind

Somerzby tunnels are made of fir timber, which is sturdy and rot-resistant. Unlike flimsy fabric tunnels that rip or metal tunnels that overheat in summer, our timber design is built to last outdoors. We use wire mesh on the sides that is thick enough to resist damage from their claws, giving you confidence that your cat is safely contained at all times.

Easy to Assemble

All of Somerzby’s cat tunnels come as a flat pack. They will arrive in panels with the wire mesh already attached to the frames. All you need to do is line the panels up and screw them together using the provided screws plus your own battery-powered screwdriver. Its small size and basic rectangular shape make assembly quick and straightforward, ready for your cat to enjoy in no time!

Wire Mesh for Clear Visibility

Somerzby cat tunnels feature wire mesh on all sides, giving your cat an unobstructed view of their surroundings as they explore. Many customers report their cats enjoy sunbathing inside the tunnel on warm days! Unlike competitor models with solid walls, the open design means you can keep an eye on your cat at all times.

What is an Outdoor Cat Tunnel Enclosure?

An outdoor cat tunnel is a secure, enclosed walkway that connects your home to an outdoor catio. It allows your cat to access the catio independently, without you needing to be carried out or supervised. This freedom to come and go means your cat can safely sit in the sunshine whenever they feel like it, then head back indoors when they get tired and hungry.

Unlike letting your cat roam unprotected outdoors, a tunnel-and-catio setup protects your pet from vehicles, getting lost and fighting with other cats. By keeping your cat in an enclosure, you also help protect natural wildlife and birds from being injured by your cat.

Having a tunnel permanently attached to your house means you don’t have to keep checking the weather or rush to bring them inside if it starts raining or gets too hot.

It’s a great addition for any cat-loving home, supporting your cat’s natural behaviours while making outdoor access easier, safer and more enjoyable for you both.

FAQ

Bella Cat Tunnels to Heidi Cat Enclosure

What is the difference between an indoor cat tunnel and an outdoor cat tunnel?

Indoor cat tunnels are designed for play. They are made from flimsy, thin materials and do not connect to anything.

Outdoor cat tunnels are designed to join an outdoor cat enclosure to your house with the purpose of your cat moving safely between the two without your assistance, whenever they want. They are made from strong, long-lasting materials.

Can I DIY my own cat tunnel?

Some cat owners choose to build their own DIY cat tunnel. This can be a great option if you enjoy hands-on projects and want a fully custom setup. However, it’s important to make sure the materials and construction are secure enough to keep your cat safely contained, especially if they’ll be using the tunnel unsupervised. For this reason, many cat parents decide to purchase a professionally made tunnel.

Can I connect my cat tunnel to the cat enclosure?

Yes, outdoor cat tunnels are designed to connect to a cat enclosure or run. You will have to cut your enclosure’s wire mesh to create a hole for the tunnel to join. On the other end, many cat owners connect the tunnel to their house via a small window or doggie door.

Can outdoor cat tunnels be customised or extended?

Yes, many outdoor cat tunnels are designed to be modular, allowing you to customise their layout and design a setup that works in your backyard.

Somerzby Cat Tunnel Runways are 1 metre long and can easily be joined together to make a longer space. We also sell corner pieces if you need your tunnel to go around a bend in your backyard.

Do cats like tunnels?

Most cats are happy to use tunnels, but it can vary as cats are all individual in their likes and dislikes. Cats generally enjoy the independence that tunnels give them.

If your cat is unsure about using a tunnel at first, we recommend starting with a shorter tunnel. Try placing treats inside or throwing their favourite toy through. When your cat enters the tunnel (even if only one step at first), reward them with praise and pats.
